CHARLOTTE, N.C.

A string of car break-ins in SouthPark targeted six drivers, including a police officer.

Police say a thief made off with a CMPD gas mask, bulletproof vest and ticket book.

Officials would not say if they were stolen from a police car or personal vehicle, but say the officer was working at the time of break-in on Wednesday.

In all, thieves broke into six cars, taking electronics and even someone's gun.

Lewis Edwards says he was targeted even though all his items were out of sight.

"The glove compartment was open, the center console was open," Edwards said, "everything was open like someone had been in it. I didn't notice it until I got in."

Police have not made any arrests.
