Calif. Sheriff's Dept. To Assist Maricopa Police Dept. After Crash

MARICOPA, Calif.

The Maricopa Police Department will be assisted by the Kern County Sheriff's Department following a car crash with its acting police chief.

The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday when acting police chief Sgt. Bill Mossbrooks was traveling down a road and a car was coming at him in the same lane, according to reports.

Mossbrooks drove off the road and ended up in a ditch to avoid the car, according to reports.

Mossbrooks called Maricopa City Hall to report what had happened and the KCSO was called in to assist because there wouldn't be enough law enforcement to patrol Maricopa, Sheriff Donny Youngblood.

If this turns into a long-term assistance, Maricopa City will be added to the KCSD's patrol.
