DENVER
A 26-year-old Denver man was identified Monday as the suspected "Break Room Bandit" and formally charged with breaking into employee lockers at stores throughout the metro area and using the victims' credit cards to buy gift cards.
Geoffrey Landers was charged with four counts of second-degree burglary, 16 counts of identity theft, one count of possession of burglary tools and one count of aggravated motor vehicle theft.
The charges accuse Landers of breaking into numerous employee lockers across the metro area, stealing purses and credit cards, and then using the stolen credit cards to purchase gift cards.
Landers is also accused of taking car keys and stealing a victim's car. Surveillance video shows a second person but that person has not yet been identified, authorities said.
Landers was arrested last week after he was identified through surveillance video, the Denver District Attorney's Office said.
On Landers' Facebook page, he brags about cutting off an ankle monitor from Boulder and talks about "going on a mission tonight," although the meaning of the statement isn't clear.
He also has a picture of new laptop computer, with his reflection in the laptop screen that he is selling and claims the laptop is "straight out of the box." The entry is dated Nov. 21.
Investigators will likely cross-check the entries with the dates of crimes and loses attributed to the "break room bandit."
The thieves have robbed workers at pet stores such as Petco and PetSmart as well as office supply businesses, police said.
A number of law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation and additional charges are likely, a statement from the district attorney's office said.
