TURTLE CREEK, Pa. --

An officer on patrol alerted a Turtle Creek family to their burning home.

Turtle Creek police Chief Jack Osman said the fire happened on George Street. Osman said the officer noticed the fire and knocked on the door.

Family members said they didn't realize the home was burning.

"One of the police officers smelled smoke in the area, seen a little bit of a haze. He drove around and checked this place out and seen the smoke coming out of the eaves of the roof. He got in there and alerted the people," Osman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
