BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --

Authorities say a police officer has shot and wounded a person at the airport in Birmingham, Ala., and officials say part of the airport's lower level has been closed to the public.

WBRC-TV reports that Birmingham police say the person was shot after the suspect tried to run over the officer with his car Thursday in the lower level of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Authorities say the suspect received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Airport spokeswoman Toni Herrera-Bast says passengers were not injured and the rest of the airport remains open.
