Handcuffed Calif. Man Runs From Police After Traffic Stop

A man, suspected of driving under the influence,was under arrested Thursday after running away from police while handcuffed in University City.

UNIVERSITY CITY, Calif.

A man, suspected of driving under the influence, is under arrested Thursday after running away from police while handcuffed in University City.

A San Diego police officer stopped the man who was driving a Toyota Camry erratically near Award Row and Honors Drive around 1:30 a.m.

The Toyota Camry had a flat tire.

After failing a sobriety test, the man was placed in handcuffs. The officer then spoke with the female passenger of the vehicle and while they spoke, the man took off running down Honors Drive and into the dark.

Police found the man after 90 minutes using a K-9 unit and the police helicopter ABLE which is equipped with infra-red technology.

The man was taken into custody.
