Authorities Say 'Geezer Bandit' Robbed Wells Fargo Inside Vons Store On Sept. 30.

SAN DIEGO

The September robbery of a bank in La Jolla has been linked to the so-called "Geezer Bandit," according to the FBI and local law enforcement officials.

Authorities said the Geezer Bandit is believed to be responsible for 15 bank robberies dating back to August 28, 2009. The first robbery in this series was in Santee, California, and the latest was on September 30, 2011, in La Jolla.

In the September robbery, authorities said the Geezer Bandit entered a Vons grocery store on 7544 Girard Avenue and approached a teller at the Wells Fargo Bank branch inside. Authorities said the bandit made demanded money and pointed a firearm at the teller.

The teller complied and provided the bandit with a sum of money. Once he had the money, the suspected robber walked out of the store.

After an extensive investigation, authorities said there is "a reasonable belief that the Geezer Bandit is responsible for this robbery."

Witnesses from previous robberies have described the Geezer Bandit as a white male between 60 to 70 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 190 to 200 pounds.

He has been seen wearing a navy-colored blazer, navy or black-colored baseball cap, dark-colored pants and possibly wearing a mask and rubber gloves. Authorities said the man has brandished a revolver in his left hand during some of the robberies.

Anyone with information regarding the Geezer Bandit robbery series is urged to contact the FBI at (858) 565-1255 or local law enforcement.

Authorities consider the Geezer Bandit armed and dangerous.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the Geezer Bandit.
