Ga. Officer Dies When Cruisers Collide

A female Albany police officer was killed when her cruiser collided with another.

A female officer with the Albany (Ga.) Police Department was killed when her cruiser collided with another cruiser and burst into flames during a pursuit of armed robbers on Friday.

According to information provided by Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP) the officer killed in the line of duty was Terry Fleming, 36, a 5-year veteran of the Albany department.

The officers were pursuing a truck allegedly occupied by two men who had just committed an armed robbery. According to news reports, the driver of the other cruiser was hurt in the collision which occurred at the intersection of East Residence and Blaylock avenues in Albany.

The suspects continued to flee until their truck overturned a short distance away from the cruiser crash site, according to ODMP. The suspects, who were not immediately identified, were arrested and charged with felonies in connection with the death of Officer Fleming as well as a variety of other felonies in connection with the armed robbery.

Officer Fleming is survived by her husband and three children.
