CORNELIUS, N.C.--

A Florida man was arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with the burning of a marked Cornelius Police patrol car.

The Cornelius Police Department said Stephen Morris Long was arrested around 8 a.m. at his home in Riverview, Fla. He was charged with one felony count of malicious use of explosives to damage property and one felony count of burning personal property in connection with the Sept. 28 incident.

The patrol car was set on fire while sitting in a Rite Aid parking lot, adjacent to the Cornelius Police Department.

A Cornelius officer wrote Long a citation on Sept. 24 while he was in town on business doing contract work for the McGuire Nuclear Plant, police said.

Long is being processed in the Hillsborough County Jail awaiting an extradition hearing, police said.
