LOUISVILLE, Ky. --
Police said a Louisville man accidentally shot himself and then lied to officers about it.
According to arrest records, 20-year-old Roman Brown sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right leg.
When questioned by police, Brown told them he was wounded by an unknown assailant while walking to the store, according to arrest records.
Brown was taken to University Hospital.
When questioned by a Louisville police detective, he repeated the unknown assailant story, police said.
According to arrest records, Brown was advised that it is against the law to falsely report an incident but insisted that he was shot by an unknown assailant.
Brown refused to speak with the detective any further, police said.
The detective later found a witness who said that Brown had shot himself while putting a gun back into his pocket after pointing it at a group of people, according to arrest records.
The gun was later found in a nearby apartment, police said.
Brown is charged with tampering with physical evidence and falsely reporting an incident.
