Georgia Deputy Succumbs to Crash Injuries

A Union County deputy died Sunday shortly before noon, three days after he was injured in an on-duty crash, according to AccessNorthGa.com.

Deputy Derrick Whittle's cruiser went out of control and struck a tree while he was responding to a domestic dispute call at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

He was transported to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he succumbed to his injuries.

Whittle is survived by his wife, Karen, and their two children, Nick and Leah.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
