A Department of Army civilian police officer died Thursday morning while running as part of a physical agility test, according to KOLD-TV.
Officer Bart Child, 29, and another officer were on the track at Fort Huachuca in southern Arizona doing a 1.5-mile run in preparation of the DA Police Academy, spokeswoman Tanja Linton told the news station.
Child collapsed during the run and was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Health Center and was pronounced dead at approximately 10:23 a.m.
"DA Police Officer Bart Child was a valued member of the Directorate of Emergency Services team, and he will be sorely missed by all DES personnel," Director Dan Ortega said in a statement. "His wife and three children are in our thoughts and prayers."
The cause of death is currently under investigation.
A memorial service will be held at the Main Post Chapel on Monday at 10 a.m.
