A 13-year-old Ogden boy suffered minor injuries when he allegedly rode his bike through a red light and was struck by a police squad car.

A 13-year-old Ogden boy suffered minor injuries when he allegedly rode his bike through a red light and was struck by a police squad car.

Ogden police Lt. Eric Young said Tuesday that the boy suffered bumps, scrapes and bruises and was transported to the hospital as a precaution, but otherwise was not seriously injured.

The incident took place at 7:18 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and 700 South. The boy, riding his bike through a sidewalk, was crossing against the signal, which had turned green for the police officer.

The officer, who was transporting a prisoner at the time, had to call another unit to complete the trip while the initial investigation was done. The officer returned to duty later in the day, Young said.

"There was no reason to believe that there had been any misconduct on his part," Young said, but added that an official investigation would be done by the Utah Highway Patrol.

"That's always what we do when we have an incident, have another agency do the investigation," Young said.
