Louisiana DPS Officer Killed in Cruiser Crash

A Louisiana DPS Capitol Police officer was killed in a crash Tuesday night, according to WAFB-TV.

Corporal John Kendall, 63, was traveling eastbound on I-12 in Holden when his cruiser crossed the median and collided with an 18-wheeler and a pick-up truck heading westbound shortly after 6 p.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"He epitomizes when you talk about a police officer," Louisiana State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson told the news station. "The dedication, the integrity of why you wear this badge."

He is the first Department of Public Safety officer in the department's history to die in line of duty.
