NYPD Officer Succumbed to Injuries Following Crash

An NYPD officer died last month following complications from an aortic dissection following an on-duty crash.

An NYPD officer died last month following complications from an aortic dissection following an on-duty crash.

Detective Fermin "Sonny" Archer, 48, was driving an unmarked police vehicle on June 17 when the crash occurred, according to department spokesman Lt. John Grimpel.

He was transported to North Shore Hospital following the incident and remained there until his death on July 14.

Archer was a 28-year veteran, first working for the New York City Transit Authority Police Department beginning in 1994 before it later merged with NYPD.
