Fla. Officer Accidentally Shoots Colleague

A Bradford County Sheriff's Office correctional officer accidentally shot another correctional officer in the face Saturday evening.

PALATKA, Fla. --

A Bradford County Sheriff's Office correctional officer accidentally shot another correctional officer in the face Saturday evening, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Charles Hendrix was cleaning his Glock .40 caliber handgun at a Palatka home about 7:30 p.m. Deputies said the gun accidentally discharged, striking Lori Anne Jestes in the face.

Jestes was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville in serious condition.

Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy assigned detectives from the Major Crimes Unit to the investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office.

No other details were released.
