WOLCOTT, Conn. --
For the second straight day, vandals targeted school buses, this time letting the air out of dozens of tires in Wolcott overnight, which forced the district to cancel classes.
The vandalism caused a headache for the district and the bus company, which had no way to fix the tires in time for the morning runs or to bring in extra buses.
"It's frustrating, disgusting, and shameful that this happened," said school Superintendent Joseph Macary.
The flat tires fill the bus yard off Wolcott Road. Just before 6 a.m. as drivers showed up for their morning routes, they discovered someone had let the air out of the tires on 28 buses.
While a detective dusted for fingerprints at the bus yard on Tuesday, parents around town, such as Nicole Book, were making plans for their kids.
Instead of spending a day at school, fifth-grader Layna Book was heading to day care.
"Just disappointing. The parents will have to pay for this, assuming it's young kids, and the consequences of their actions," said Nicole Book.
It is the second act of vandalism against a school bus depot in as many days. Monday, New Milford schools were forced to delay the start of classes after their school bus tires were found slashed.
Police also say it is too early to know if the incidents in Wolcott and New Milford are connected.
