A Tuscaloosa motorcycle officer was killed in a crash while escorting a funeral on Saturday, according to The Tuscaloosa News.
Officer Trevor Scott Phillips was approaching the procession that was headed east on 35th Street around 2:20 p.m. when one of the drivers suddenly made a U-turn and pulled in front of him.
"For whatever reason, the driver of the vehicle decided they did not want to continue moving with the procession and attempted to head in the opposite direction," Police Chief Steve Anderson told the newspaper. "They didn't see the officer coming, or they thought the lane was clear."
The more than 10-year veteran collided with the vehicle and was thrown from the motorcycle and would die following the impact.
No charges have been filed and the collision is currently under investigation.
