Hurt Missouri Officer Extricated From Wrecked Cruiser

A Kansas City police officer was involved in a crash Friday afternoon at 58th Street and the Paseo.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --

A Kansas City police officer was involved in a crash Friday afternoon at 58th Street and the Paseo.

Police reported there were injuries at the accident scene but did not know how serious they were. It extent of the officer's injuries was unclear.

Police said there was one male officer in the car when it hit a light pole just before 4:30 p.m. The officer had to be extricated from the car. He was being treated in an ambulance at the scene and was then taken to the hospital for a head injury. Police said he would likely be released from the hospital Friday night after being tested.

Police said the officer was traveling northbound with his lights and siren on when he hit a slick spot on the way to a knifing call in the 5200 block of Garfield Avenue. Police said the officer spun out and hit the utility pole on the passenger's side of the cruiser.
