LAURENS, S.C. --

A Gray Court woman was charged with assaulting on a police officer after she became belligerent during her arrest Sunday, the Laurens County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said 19-year-old Angela Lewis became defiant when deputies arrested her and put her in the backseat of a deputy's cruiser. They said that Lewis then used her feet to kick out a window of the car. They said the shattered glass cut a deputy.

Investigators said another deputy was called to the scene to take Lewis to jail.

In addition to the assault charge, Lewis also was charged with public intoxication and malicious injury to county property. She was released from jail on bond.
