ANDERSON, S.C. --

An Anderson police officer suffered minor injuries when his patrol car hit a power pole Monday night, the Anderson Police Department said.

Police said the officer and 19-year-old Timothy Young, of Anderson, were traveling on the same side of West North Avenue -- a four-lane divided highway. They said that Young, who was in the right lane, tried to make a U-turn in front of the officer, who was in the left lane. They said the officer, in an effort to avoid hitting Young's vehicle, ran off the side of the road and hit a power pole.

Police said the officer was treated and released from AnMed Health. They said Young was not injured.

Troopers found that Young was at fault in the crash, police said.

The name of the officer was not immediately released.
