BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --

Three teens were arrested Thursday morning after a chase in Oildale.

Deputies said that about 2 a.m., deputies were sent to the 300 block of Tanner Michael Drive, on a report of someone trying to break into a home.

Deputies said that they saw two people running toward a white Ford pickup.

When deputies attempted to stop the pickup, they said the teens inside drove off.

During the pursuit, deputies learned that the pickup was reported to the Bakersfield Police Department as a stolen vehicle.

Police said the vehicle was taken from the 4500 block of Margalo on April 20.

The pursuit covered most of Oildale at speeds reaching as high as 100 mph, deputies said.

The teens eventually traveled northbound on Granite Road and then they left the roadway and headed into the foothills, deputies said.

As the vehicle reached the top of one hill, its path was block by fencing, deputies said.

The teens turned around and began heading toward the pursuing deputies, striking one of the patrol cars head on. The deputy in that vehicle was uninjured, deputies said.

The pursuit continued back through Oildale and eventually onto southbound Highway 99, deputies said.

The teens continued on southbound Highway 99 until they exited the freeway at the Rosedale Highway offramp, deputies said.

The vehicle continued down the offramp, crossed Rosedale Highway and ran into a drainage area south of Rosedale Highway where the vehicle became disabled, deputies said.

The driver of the vehicle, Eddie Rivas, 18, resisted the deputies' attempt to take him into custody and was bitten by a sheriff’s K-9, deputies said.

The other two, Alfredo Lavano, 18, and a 17-year-old were taken into custody without incident, deputies said.

Rivas was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment of a dog bite.

The three teens were arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, possession of stolen property, felony evading and conspiracy.
