BEREA, S.C. --

Greenville County deputies said they are looking for a man who escaped arrest Thursday afternoon with a single handcuff on his wrist.

Investigators said that a deputy had pulled a car over about 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Wilcun Drive and Leland Circle.

Deputies said that the two men inside the car appeared to be very nervous, said they did not have identification with them and gave false names and birthdays to law enforcement. They said the deputy conducting the stop also smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car and called for backup.

Investigators said that when backup arrived, the two men were taken out of the car. They said that when a deputy asked for the driver's wallet the man fled. They said he was arrested after a brief foot pursuit in a nearby bank's parking lot. They said when another deputy put a handcuff on one of the passenger's wrists, the passenger pulled away and was able to escape.

The driver was identified as Marco Sullivan. He was charged with providing false information, resisting arrest, and third-offense driving under suspension. Deputies said Sullivan also had outstanding warrants for five other charges that were not related to Thursday's arrest.

The passenger was identified as Charles Sullivan, Marco Sullivan's cousin. Deputies said Charles Sullivan will be charged with providing false information and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute in connection with Thursday's traffic stop. They said he also has two other active warrants for his arrest not related to Thursday's incident.

Deputies said that two bags of marijuana were found under a tree where they were thrown by Charles Sullivan. They said a significant portion of the 48 grams of marijuana was separated into smaller bags.

Marco Sullivan was being held at the Greenville County Detention Center under no bond.

Anyone with information about Charles Sullivan's whereabouts was asked to call Greenville County Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
