SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. --

A Shelbyville man is accused of attacking a police officer for getting a speeding ticket.

Leonardo Melendez was arrested Monday. An officer said he clocked the driver going 10 mph over the speed limit.

When the officer realized Melendez didn't have insurance, he said, he wrote him a ticket. That's when, the officer said, Melendez became combative.

Melendez got out of his car, hitting the officer with the door, and then charged at him, according to the officer.

The officer said Melendez refused to surrender and was pepper-sprayed, wrestled to the ground and arrested.
