MANCHESTER, N.H. --

A Manchester police officer on his way to work Friday afternoon found himself caught up in the middle of a robbery, police said.

Detective Sgt. John Patti saw three people running out of a Sports Authority on S. Willow Street and quickly getting into a car and driving away. Patti wrote down the car's license plate number and noticed another man attempting to flee the store on foot.

Police said 17-year-old William Delisle grabbed a significant amount of merchandise and assaulted a store employee before running out of the store.

Patti arrested Delisle at the scene, police said. He was charged with robbery and violation of bail conditions.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
