LAS VEGAS --
Thomas Rosco Mendiola, one of three Las Vegas police officers who shot and killed Erik Scott outside a Summerlin Costco, has been relieved from duty, the Las Vegas Metro Police Department announced Monday.
Police said that Mendiola, 23, was released without pay while he is investigated on criminal charges that he provided a firearm to a prohibited person.
Mendiola is scheduled to appear Feb. 24 in Clark County District Court on the felony charge, according to court records.
Police said that, following the disposition of criminal charges, the department will conduct an internal investigation.
Mendiola has been with Metro since March 2009.
