MILWAUKEE --

An off-duty Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy said he was punched in the face by a shoplifting suspect.

Lt. William Brown was in the Apple Store at Mayfair Mall this weekend, when he said he saw a teenager steal an iTouch.

He said the teen punched him in the face when tried to stop the theft.

"Oh he definitely knew I was a law enforcement officer. I showed him my badge and I advised him I was a cop," Brown said.

He put the suspect in a headlock until a security guard and an off-duty Milwaukee police officer helped arrest the teen.

"A lot of people think we're off and we're never off. I was in the right place at the right time, it was the right thing to do and that's why I took the job that I took," Lt. Brown said.

The teen was taken into custody by Wauwatosa police.

The suspect faces theft and battery charges.
