NEVADA, Iowa --
An investigation continues Monday into a Nevada police officer's shooting of a man inside his home Sunday morning.
Office David Johnson, a two-year veteran, was responding to a 911 call to the residence at 637 7th Street at about 2:55 a.m. when he "had contact with an adult male inside the home," an Iowa Department of Public Safety press release said. "During the contact, the Nevada officer fired his weapon, striking and killing the male."
Officials declined to say why the officer fired his weapon.
The man was later identified as Kevin Alton Johnson, 39. Investigators said the officer and victim, although they share the same last name, were not related.
Officials said the 911 call was to report a domestic assault.
Officer David Johnson was placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
