Kentucky Police Officer Injured in Crash

A Frankfort police officer is injured after trying to stop a driver on suspicion of DUI.

FRANKFORT, Ky. --

A Frankfort police officer was injured as he was attempting to pull over a driver suspected of DUI.

Police said the car pulled in to a gas station at about 5:15 p.m. Friday and struck Officer Byron Redmon and another vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Police said the driver, 49-year-old Russell Wheat, abandoned the car at Schenkel Lane and Colonial Trace mobile home park.

The extent of the Redmon's injuries are not known at this time.

Wheat was charged with first-degree assault.
