LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP, Ohio --

Ohio State Highway Patrol officers are still investigating a crash that took the life of an East Liverpool police officer's wife.

Troopers said a 17-year-old girl was driving when she went left of center and struck 43-year-old Paula Faulkner's car head-on.

The crash happened on Dresden Avenue in Liverpool Township on Saturday afternoon. The teen driver told police that a 22-year-old backseat passenger reached up and grabbed the steering wheel, causing the teen to lose control of the vehicle.

Although the case remains under investigation, officials said the driver and the passenger who grabbed the wheel could both face charges.

According to investigators, the 17-year-old was driving with only a permit, but troopers confirmed that the 22-year-old was a licensed driver.
