SALEM, Ore. --

A Salem police officer was injured Tuesday morning when an accident sent him flying over the handlebars of his motorcycle and across the hood of a car.

Police investigators say Cpl. Don Chuhlantseff was on duty and traveling east on Orchard Heights Road Northwest at about 7 a.m. when a 2008 Chevy Impala turned in front of him.

Chuhlantseff was not able to stop in time and collided with the car driven by 72-year-old Marlie Murphy, of Salem, officers say.

Pictures from the scene showed the motorcycle on its side near scattered debris, including a radar gun and notebook.

Police say Chulantseff was sent flying over his handlebars, over Murphy’s car and onto the pavement.

He was rushed to Salem Hospital where he is expected to recover from his injuries.

Investigators say speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, but Murphy was ticketed for making a dangerous left turn.
