OAK GROVE, Ky. --

A police chief who was recently cleared in a criminal investigation has now been fired.

The mayor in Oak Grove, Ky., fired Milton Perry on Monday because of what he called ongoing leadership issues.

But he said he doesn't suspect Perry of any misconduct, and the decision doesn't have anything to do with the recent Kentucky State Police investigation into allegations he had stolen city equipment in his home.

A grand jury heard those allegations and opted not to indict Perry in January.

Oak Grove's mayor said Perry jeopardized the Police Department's liability insurance because the department's leadership has been under such tight scrutiny.
