CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. --
Two people were arrested after leading officers on a chase and firing shots at them, Catawba County officials said.
Officers chased a man and a woman along Island Point Road in the southern part of Catawba County late Tuesday afternoon. Shots were fired at the officers during the chase.
Witnesses told Eyewitness News they were too close for comfort.
"As soon as we put our window up, we just turned around. They were going right beside our window. We could have touched the car, it was so close," said Jolie King.
The suspects, whose names have not been released, are suspected in four vehicle thefts and three home invasions, investigators said.
Deputies used gunfire to flatten the tires on the vehicle the suspects were in and took them into custody.
The incident started after someone spotted a car that police had been looking for in connection with several armed robberies in Georgia and South Carolina.
