BOCA RATON, Fla. --

A man accused of assaulting Boca Raton police officers with his car and then crashing into a Volvo while trying to get away has been arrested.

Police said officers observed a Dodge Magnum pull into the parking lot of Boomers, park next to another car, pull out and then drive into the parking lot of Cinemark on Wednesday night.

When one of the officers approached the car, the driver of the Dodge backed out of the spot and almost struck the officer, police said. The car then appeared to drive toward the officer before speeding out of the parking lot, police said.

Police said they pursued the car as it sped south on Airport Road and turned east on Glades Road before eventually crashing into a Volvo that was pulling out of the parking lot of University Commons. The impact caused the Volvo to overturn several times.

Three of the four people in the Volvo were taken to Delray Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, later identified as Esdras Raymond, wasn't hurt, but his passenger, Justin Werner, was taken to Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Police said Raymond admitted that he met Werner to conduct a drug deal.

Raymond was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, fleeing and eluding, trafficking in oxycodone, DUI and violation of probation. Werner was arrested on a drug possession charge.
