MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio --

A Miami Township police officers' cruiser was struck when he was responding to a report of a house fire Thursday evening.

The crash happened at Springboro Pike and Contemporary Drive, in Miami Township.

Authorities said a car turning out of the Dayton mall was at the green light, stopped when another car behind her didn't hear or see the sirens, went into the intersection and struck the officer's cruiser, spinning it in the opposite direction.

Investigators say the officer was following proper procedures in responding to a 911 call.

Sgt. Paul Nienhaus, Miami Township Police Officer said, " The way car steroes are now and digital feeds, you're in your own little world in a car. You've got your phone, you've got your music, your gps, you've got everything you need but there's still a world going on outside your car and you need to pay attention. "
