Kernersville police was dispatched to the area of Burke and Adams streets on a reported dog bite.
Investigators said a teen was bit on the leg by a shepherd mix dog that was running around the neighborhood. While an officer was trying to find the owner of the dog, the same dog attacked and attempted to bite him. The officer said he had no other recourse than to shoot and kill the dog.
Forsyth County Animal Control responded to the area, took possession of the deceased animal and will have it examined for rabies. Animal Control also captured another shepherd mix dog that also ran astray in the same area.
Police said the owner of deceased dog has not yet been located.
