Spartanburg Public Safety says a motorcycle officer was injured in a crash as he was headed home after work Sunday night.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --

The Spartanburg Public Safety Department said a motorcycle officer was injured in a crash Sunday night.

The crash happened near the intersection of Highway 221 and Floyd Road.

Police said a vehicle pulled out in front of the officer's motorcycle and caused the crash.

The officer, identified as Clayton Soules, suffered injuries to his foot and leg and underwent surgery, police said.

The Highway Patrol said the driver of the car that hit Soules' motorcycle, 42-year-old James Osborne, was charged with failure to yield the right of way.

Soules has been with the department for three years.
