BOCA RATON, Fla. --
A Delray Beach police officer was killed in a crash Thursday morning on his way to work.
The officer killed in the crash was identified as Sgt. Adam Rosenthal, a 16-year veteran of the Delray Beach Police Department.
Delray Beach police said Rosenthal initiated and ran a youth marshal arts program in the community. He was the lead rape defense tactics instructor and was a member of the SWAT team.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Rosenthal's cruiser struck a tree on Southwest 18th Street.
Video from the scene showed the cruiser had struck the tree in the median on the passenger side. The vehicle appeared to have wrapped around the tree.
Rosenthal leaves behind a wife and four children.
"Adam also leaves behind a heartbroken family here at the Delray Beach Police Department," a tearful Sgt. Nicole Guerriero said at a news conference.
Donations can be made to:
