Lee's Summit police say a fire truck and police car were hit on U.S. Highway 50 and Missouri Highway 291.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. --

Lee's Summit police said a fire truck and police car were hit while responding to a car on U.S. Highway 50 and Missouri Highway 291 early Saturday.

Investigators said the crash started when emergency crews came to the scene after a car slid into a guard rail.

The pumper truck had just parked near the scene when another vehicle hit it. Firefighters were in the process of getting out of the truck when it crashed, but no firefighters were hurt.

Emergency crews said a second car hit a parked police car that had arrived to help with traffic control.

The drivers of the cars that hit the two emergency vehicles were taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators said slick surfaces from Saturday's freezing drizzle likely caused all three crashes.
