One man is dead, another has a gunshot wound and four suspects are in custody following a gun batttle with police officers in west Phoenix.
Police said they were called to a home near 89th Avenue and Indian School Road at about 3 a.m. Wednesday by a woman who was hiding with a young child in a back room while several gunmen held a man in the home at knifepoint.

According to Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department, the robbers went through the home looking for jewelry and money when they found the woman on the phone and took it away. The woman and child were unharmed but the thieves stabbed the man in the leg.
Three officers arrived at the home as the suspects were leaving.
"When the six gunmen came out, the group was led by an individual who had a long rifle with him, and that long rifle was lowered in the direction of our officers," said Crump.
Officers said they opened fire, and two of the suspects fell to the ground while four others scattered into the neighborhood.
When officers tried to arrest two suspects near the home, they said one pretended to be hurt.
"One of the individuals was not complying and was acting as though he was completely incoherent. As the officers approached him, that individual went for a gun," said Crump.
Officers fatally shot that suspect and took the other one into custody, Crump said.
Officers believe the remaining four suspects hid in the neighborhood looking for shelter in back yards and even trash cans. After a short search with police K-9 officers, they were all arrested.
Police believe they have arrested all of the people involved in the home robbery, but are searching for a possible seventh suspect.
They say the 21-year-old suspect killed is being withheld until his relatives are notified. They say a 29-year-old male suspect remains hospitalized.
The other four men range in age from 21 to 25. Police say all four are facing charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed burglary, aggravated assault and weapons violations.
