Kentucky Officer Dies During Training

A 19-year veteran of the Alexandria, Ky. Police Department died Friday while on-duty and attending training in Corbin, Ky.

A 19-year veteran of the Alexandria, Ky. Police Department died Friday while on-duty and attending training in Corbin, Ky, according to WCPO.com.

James "Stumpy" Sticklen, 58, collapsed from a medical emergency while attending the final day of a 40-day course in Crisis Intervention Training, the department reports.

"On behalf of the Alexandria Police Department, our officers, staff, the employees and elected officials of the City of Alexandria, we extend our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to Jim's wife and children," Police Chief J. Michael Ward II said in a statement released to news media.

Stricklen was the school resource officer serving the Campbell County School District, Bishop Brossart High School and St. Mary Grade School.

"He has had a profound effect on the lives of thousands of students during his tenure," Ward's statement said.

Sticklen is survived by his wife and three children.
