Pedestrian Struck by N.C. Police Cruiser

A police officer struck a woman as she crossed the street in west Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --

A police officer struck a woman as she crossed the street in west Charlotte.

It happened on Little Rock Road just before 5 a.m. Sunday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told Eyewitness News a sergeant was on his way to work when he struck the woman.

The officer was driving a police cruiser, but his lights were not on, nor was he responding to a call.

Medic took her to the hospital. There was no word on her condition.

Police said the woman had been drinking.

CMPD did not release the officer's name, nor the name of the victim.
