NEAR SPANAWAY, Wash. --

A Lakewood police officer was injured in a crash while trying to catch a speeding driver.

It happened late Tuesday night near Joint Base Lewis-McChord where Perimeter Road meets Military Road South.

A Lakewood police lieutenant said something happened when the officer approached the speeding white sedan that caused the patrol car to go off the road.

The patrol car went across a ditch and ended up against some trees.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price reported the officer was briefly unconscious, but he regained consciousness after other officers arrived and was talking.
