NEAR SPANAWAY, Wash. --
A Lakewood police officer was injured in a crash while trying to catch a speeding driver.
It happened late Tuesday night near Joint Base Lewis-McChord where Perimeter Road meets Military Road South.
A Lakewood police lieutenant said something happened when the officer approached the speeding white sedan that caused the patrol car to go off the road.
The patrol car went across a ditch and ended up against some trees.
Only KIRO 7 was on the scene as medics helped the officer.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price reported the officer was briefly unconscious, but he regained consciousness after other officers arrived and was talking.
Medics took the officer to Tacoma General Hospital.
Police are still looking for the white sedan.
