Fla. Trooper Accidentally Shot in Thigh

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was accidentally shot during a weapons inspection in Belle Glade Friday night.
Officer.com Editor's Note: According to a Sun Sentinel update, the trooper did not shoot herself, as initially reported. A supervisor was inspecting a weapon when he accidentally discharged it and struck Scheetz.

The supervisor was placed on administrative leave for three days and an investigation was underway.

BELLE GLADE, Fla. --

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper shot herself accidentally during a weapons inspection in Belle Glade Friday night.

FHP said trooper and weapons instructor Mellow Schetz was shot in the back of her upper thigh during the semiannual weapons qualifications at about 9:45 p.m.

She was airlifted from the Belle Glade Law Enforcement Range to Delray Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
