SAN ANTONIO --

A U.S. deputy marshal was involved in a three-vehicle crash that killed an 80-year-old woman Thursday morning on the city's Northeast Side.

According to Sgt. Chris Benavides, a spokesman with the San Antonio Police Department, the woman's sport utility vehicle was exiting the parking lot of the YMCA in the 5500 block of Walzem Road at 9 a.m. when she tried to cross the eastbound lanes of traffic to turn left and was broadsided by a sport utility vehicle driven by the marshal.

The impact caused the woman's SUV to hit a third SUV, Benavides said.

"Early indication is that she failed to yield as she came out of the private driveway," Benavides said.

Benavides said it does not appear that either of the other drivers will be ticketed.

The woman has not been identified. YMCA officials refused to comment whether the woman was among a group of senior citizens who regularly work out at the facility.
