PITTSBURGH --
Police said a car driven by an elderly woman careened right into the First United Methodist Church in Murrysville on Sunday morning.
Church members said they had just started the service when a car crashed straight into the building, making one of the benches fly and smash through a stained glass window.
"(The car) took out one of the pillars under the front roof and it went up over the stone railing, taking out a couple of benches. (The benches) went down into a landscape area behind a front stone railing," church member Carrie Bortz said.
Police said some people were injured by flying glass, but the elderly driver was unhurt.
Church members said if the incident happened 10 minutes earlier, the car would have hit a large crowd that was gathered at the door.
