- The Campus Police Officer is responsible for protection of University faculty, staff,
- students and property, prevention and suppression of crime, apprehension and
- protection of offenders, enforcement of the Statutes of the State of Rhode Island and
- the rules and regulations of Brown University.
- Note on Work Schedules:
- Rotating schedule, four days on, two days off.
- Shift hours either 3 PM -11 PM or 11 PM - 7 AM, depending on departmental needs.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age with a valid driver's license, a U.S. Citizen, and have
- received a high school diploma. Attendance in higher education in a related field is
- considered a plus. For consideration, applicants must not have any felony or
- misdemeanor arrests and/or convictions.
- Must have tact and the ability to communicate with people, and be able to take
- command of a wide variety of situations, some of them life-threatening.
- Must pass a physical agility test, a background investigation, psychological exam and
- physical exam.
- Must be a graduate of the RI Municipal Police Academy; other recognized police
- academy, previous law enforcement experience, or eligible for reciprocity by the RI
- State Police Superintendent considered a plus.
Special Physical Requirements:
- Walking on foot patrol and physically checking doors and windows of buildings.
- Must be able to pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations which may involve quickly entering and exiting law enforcement patrol vehicles, lifting, carrying and dragging heavy objects, climbing and pulling oneself over obstacles, jumping down from elevated surfaces, climbing through openings, jumping over obstacles, crawling in confined areas, balancing on uneven or narrow surfaces and using body force to gain entrance through barriers.
