Santa Cruz, California (PRWEB) October 22, 2014 - Communities across the United States and overseas are experiencing dramatic reductions in crime -- thanks in large part to PredPol, predictive policing technology that is helping law enforcement prevent crime before it occurs.

“Most importantly, double digit reductions in crime ensure that fewer people become victims,” said PredPol CEO Larry Samuels, “and they also result in more efficient deployment of finite policing resources and tremendous cost savings to our communities.”

PredPol predicts where and when a crime is most likely to occur, not who is likely to commit a crime. Because no personal data, information about individuals or demographics are utilized in making these predictions, PredPol’s law enforcement technology does not pose any personal privacy or profiling concerns.

Jurisdictions large and small have seen dramatic reductions in crime since deploying PredPol. For example:

  •     The Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division saw a 20% drop in predicted crimes year over year from January 2013 to January 2014 and experienced a day without crime on February 13, 2014.
  •     The Atlanta, GA Police Department saw aggregate crime drop 19% five months after deployment.
  •     The Alhambra, CA Police Department reported a 32% drop in burglaries and a 20% drop in vehicle theft since deploying in January 2013. The city reported its lowest month of crime in history in May 2014.
  •     The Norcross, GA Police Department has had a 15-30% reduction in burglaries and robberies just four months after deploying in August 2013.
  •     The Modesto, CA Police Department just reported the lowest crime rates in 3 years since deployment in January 2014, including an 18% reduction in residential burglary and a 13% reduction in commercial burglary.

PredPol supports officers and analysts in predicting crimes that include property crimes, drug incidents, gang activity, gun violence, and even traffic accidents. A unique algorithm analyzes only three simple data points: place, time and date of past crimes. The patterns inherent in the crimes themselves provide ample information to predict which places and windows of time are at highest risk for future crimes.

PredPol provides law enforcement agencies with affordable, customized crime predictions for localized areas– 500 feet by 500 feet boxes on maps. Once police and analysts make decisions about which crimes and missions are priorities, maps are automatically generated for each shift of a particular day. Typically, patrol officers spend a few minutes in PredPol boxes to strengthen community ties and deter crime when they’re not responding to calls for service or performing other duties. Some of these boxes are in places that officers routinely cover, but many PredPol prediction boxes are in places that might not otherwise receive attention.
