MASSACHUSETTS-The suspect wanted for a Nov. 20 shooting of a Massachusetts state police trooper on Cape Cod was tracked to the Bronx and killed by police today in a showdown that also resulted in two deputy marshals being shot.

Andre Sterling, 35, who was charged with armed assault with intent to murder for his alleged shooting of trooper John Lennon, was found early Friday morning in a Bronx apartment, Massachusetts State Police announced.

A preliminary investigation showed there was an exchange of gunfire with two deputy marshals shot and Sterling was killed, according to MSP.

The marshals suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Lennon was shot in late November after conducting a motor vehicle stop in Hyannis. He was struck in the hand and in his torso and was treated at Cape Cod Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital and was released.

A GoFundMe fundraiser set up by the 85th Recruit Training Troop for Lennon has earned more than $159,000 as the trooper faces a long road to recovery.

Sterling had been considered "armed and dangerous," as the gun that cops allege Sterling fired during the traffic stop had not yet been recovered. MSP did not provide information Friday on the status of the weapon.

Along with that attempted murder charge and other related counts in the shooting, Sterling also faces Massachusetts warrants for identity fraud, assault and battery on a police officer and other charges. He's also wanted out of Wyoming on drug charges, state police say.

The shooting remains under investigation.
