Pa. Sheriff's Deputy Suffers Fatal Heart Attack after Foot Chase

Following a foot chase with a suspect, Cpl. Chad Beattie with the Washington County Sheriff's Office began feeling sick and suffered a sudden cardiac event.

A Pennsylvania sheriff's deputy suffered a fatal heart attack following a foot chase with a suspect Wednesday.

The medical incident happened as Cpl. Chad Beattie with the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for help from the South Strabane police. He took part in a foot chase with a suspect and then returned to his cruiser.

At his unit, Beattie began feeling sick, and he suffered a sudden cardiac event. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Beattie, 45, had been with the agency since 2002.

"During his distinguished career, he earned the rank of corporal and served on the Fugitive Unit for most of his career. Cpl. Beattie was a proud father and was an outstanding asset to the Washington County Sheriff's Office," the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
